Medical treatment visa (subclass 602) is a temporary visa. It allows people to travel to Australia for any one of the following purposes:
- For medical treatment or consultations
- To support someone needing medical treatment who holds or has applied for this visa
- To donate an organ
This visa is a way for people to stay temporarily in Australia for their medical treatment or any one of the above-mentioned purpose. The applicants can stay in Australia on this visa until the purpose of their visit completes.
Processing time
Generally, the process time for this visa is 30 to 58 days. The process time for applications can vary case to case and can also vary due to individual circumstances like:
- whether the candidate has lodged a complete application, including all necessary supporting documents
- how promptly candidate respond to any requests for additional information
- how long it takes to perform required checks on the supporting information provided
- how long it takes to receive additional information from external agencies, particularly in relation to health, character, and national security requirements
- for permanent migration visa applications, how many places are available in the migration program
- For citizenship applications, the time taken to attend a Citizenship Ceremony or receive a Citizenship Certificate.
Eligibility
In order to apply for this visa, an applicant must meet any one of the following requirements:
- The applicant must have a medical consultation or a medical treatment plan
- The applicant must be a donor of an organ to someone
- The applicant must be with someone who is going to donate an organ to the applicant
- The applicant must be going to Australia as a patient under the arrangements between the Western Province of Papua New Guinea and the Queensland Department of health
- The applicants must meet the financial, health and character requirements
- The applicant should not be in a medical condition that could be a threat to public health
- The applicant must be in Australia, 50 years of age or older and been refused an Australian permanent visa on health grounds only.
- The applicant must not hold any one of the following visa:
- A Domestic Worker (Diplomatic/Consular) visa (subclass 426)
- The Domestic Worker stream of the Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403)
- The applicants will be asked to show that he has made arrangements for:
- Their treatment
- Other expenses related to their stay in Australia
- The expenses of anyone who is accompanying you to Australia
