The High-value migrants Tier 1 visa is for all those people who are talented in the field of Science and Arts and want to migrate to the UK in order to work. This visa is designed for ‘high-value migrants’ from outside the European Economic Area (EEA). The High-Value Migrant Category consists of five types of visa for different talented applicants.

Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa
The Entrepreneur visa is for all those business people who want to set up or run a business In the UK. This visa allows international business people to enter the UK in order to establish or take over a Business in the UK. This visa is valid for 3 years and 4 months. Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa
The Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa is designed for those applicants who are endorsed in their field in science, humanities, engineering, medicine, digital technology or the arts as
- a recognized leader (exceptional talent)
- an emerging leader (exceptional promise)
The applicants who want to apply through this category must be from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.
Fees Structure
The application process for this category is consists of two stages and an applicant must pay a separate fee for the 2 stages of this process:
- stage 1 – endorsement (£456)
- stage 2 – visa application (see table below)
Note: This visa allows its applicants to stay in the UK for 5 years and 4 months if they are from outside the UK and 5 years if the applicants are from the UK
Benefits
- This visa allows applicants to work for an employer, as a director of a company or be self-employed
- This visa allows its applicants to change jobs without informing the Home office
- The applicants are allowed to do voluntary work
- The applicants are allowed to travel abroad and return to the UK
- The applicants are allowed to bring their family members along with them
Restrictions
- The applicants will not be able to get public funds.
- The applicants on this visa are not allowed to work as a doctor or dentist in training
- The applicants are not allowed to work as a professional sportsperson or sports coach
Eligibility
- The applicants may need to prove their knowledge of the English language while applying for this visa.
Ways to prove the knowledge of the English language:
- Pass an approved English language test with at least CEFR level B1 in reading, writing, speaking and listening
- The Applicants must have an academic qualification that was taught in English and is recognized by UK NARIC as being equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD
- In order to become eligible for this category, the applicants must be endorsed as a leader (exceptional talent) or emerging leader (exceptional promise) in one of the following:
- science
- engineering
- humanities
- medicine
- digital technology
- the arts
- fashion
Documents Required
- The applicant must have a valid passport
- The applicant must be able to show a printed copy of their endorsement letter.
- The applicant will have to show the tuberculosis test results if they belong to a country where they have to take the test.
Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) visa
This category is designed for international students who have completed their degree course and wish to remain in the UK to develop a business.
The graduate who has been officially endorsed as having a genuine and credible business idea can apply through this category. The applicants who want to apply through this category must be from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.
The applicant must be endorsed by either:
- The Department for International Trade (DIT) as part of the elite global graduate entrepreneur Program (Sirius)
- A UK higher educational Institute (HEI) if it is an authorized endorsing body

- The applicants are not allowed to work as a professional sportsperson or sports coach
- The applicants are not allowed to settle in the UK for this visa.
Eligibility
The eligibility for this visa depends on the person who is endorsing the applicants.
Endorsement by a UK higher education institution (HEI)
The applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The applicants must have a UK-recognized bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD awarded before the date of endorsement
- The applicants must have an endorsement from an authorized UK higher education institution issued in the past 3 months
- The applicants must be financially strong enough to meet their requirements. The applicant must have £945 in savings if applying from inside the UK, or £1,890 if applying from outside the UK
- The applicants must meet the English language requirement. The applicants may need to prove their knowledge of the English language while applying for this visa.
Ways to prove the knowledge of the English language
Pass an approved English language test with at least CEFR level B1 in reading, writing, speaking and listening
- The Applicants must have an academic qualification that was taught in English and is recognized by UK NARIC as being equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD
- The applicants must have permission to remain in the UK from their financial sponsor if they’re a government or an international scholarship agency and have paid the applicant’s course fees and living costs in the past 12 months
The applicants are not allowed to apply if they have any of the following:
- foundation degrees
- honorary degrees
- qualifications awarded in the UK by overseas awarding bodies
- qualifications are undertaken at overseas campuses of UK institutions
- professional and vocational qualifications
- postgraduate certificates or diplomas
Endorsement by the Department for International Trade (DIT)
The applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The applicants must have a degree qualification that’s recognized as being equal to a UK bachelor’s degree
- The applicants must meet the criteria set by DIT
- The applicants must have an endorsement from DIT issued in the past 3 months
- The applicants must be financially strong enough to meet their requirements. The applicant must have £945 in savings if applying from inside the UK, or £1,890 if applying from outside the UK
- The applicants must meet the English language requirement. The applicants may need to prove their knowledge of the English language while applying for this visa.
Ways to prove the knowledge of the English language:
Pass an approved English language test with at least CEFR level B1 in reading, writing, speaking and listening
- The Applicants must have an academic qualification that was taught in English and is recognized by UK NARIC as being equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD
Documents required
The applicant must be able to provide the following documents in respect to the:
Endorsed by a UK higher education institution (HEI)
- The applicants must have a current passport or other valid travel identification
- The applicants must have a letter of endorsement from their UK HEI
- The applicants must bank statements showing they’ve had at least £945 in savings if applying from inside the UK or £1,890 if applying from outside the UK – they must have had this in their bank account for 90 days before they apply
- The applicant will have to show the tuberculosis test results if they belong to a country where they have to take the test.
- The applicants will also need to provide the following if their degree was awarded by a different UK HEI than the one providing their endorsement:
- The applicants must have an original certificate of their qualification or an accepted alternative
- The applicants must have a proof that they meet the English language requirements
Endorsed by the Department for International Trade (DIT)
- The applicants must have a current passport or other valid travel identification
- The applicants must have a letter of endorsement from DIT
- The applicants must have an original certificate of their academic qualification or an alternative from the documents guide
- The applicants must have the previous passports
- The applicants must have a residence permit, ‘green card’ or valid visa if they’re not a national of the country from where they’re applying
- The applicants must bank statements showing they’ve had at least £945 in savings if applying from inside the UK or £1,890 if applying from outside the UK – they must have had this in their bank account for 90 days before they apply
- The applicant will have to show the tuberculosis test results if they belong to a country where they have to take the test.
- The applicants must have proof that they meet the English language requirements
- The applicants must have a letter from NARIC that proves that they can use their qualification to apply for this visa
