Ontario will target candidates of Express entry program with tech experience through new draws
The Government of Ontario has recently announced that it will nominate candidates of its express entry-linked immigration pathway with work experience in the technology sector for Canada PR. Earlier, it has announced to create a new stream for tech workers. However, it will decide to hold draws for Express Entry candidates with tech work experience.
David Cohen, senior partner with the Campbell, Cohen Canadian immigration law firm in Montreal said, “Ontario’s tech draws are an important innovation and a great opportunity for Express Entry candidates.”
“Ontario has shown a willingness to invite Express Entry candidates with lower scores through its Human Capital Priorities Stream, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on these tech draws to see if that continues.”
Ontario express entry is a sub-category of Ontario Human capital category. In the previous year 2018, 65% of new immigrants came to Canada as PR through Ontario’s Express Entry. It selects eligible candidates for the provincial nomination from the pool of express entry candidates. It encompasses three more branches including, Ontario Human capital Priorities, Ontario French-Speaking Skilled Worker and Ontario Skilled Trades.
Based on selection factors like age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French, candidates get their CRS score. Only higher-scoring candidates are awarded the invitation for nomination through Ontario. An express entry candidate who receives the nomination from any of the Canadian provinces is eligible for an additional 600 points towards his/her comprehensive ranking system (CRS) score which increases the chances of getting an invitation to apply for Canadian PR.
In the present scenario, Ontario reflects the high interest in the tech-focused draws to meet the shortage of tech workers. It is estimated that Canada’s Information and Communication Technology sector will hire around 220,000 skilled workers by 2021 through immigration programs. Moreover, Ontario’s allocation under the PNP for 2019 is around 6,900, the highest since the last six years and it will continue to increase in 2020 and 2021.
So if you are interested in considering profile for an invitation through an OINP tech draw, then you need to qualify the following necessities.
