Ontario’s first Tech Draw issues invitations to more than 1,600 Express Entry candidates
On July 12, 2019, Ontario conducted its first Tech Draw in which it issued invitations to 1,623 Express Entry candidates for a provincial nomination for Canadian PR. All the candidates who have created express entry profiles between July 12, 2018, and July 12, 2019, and awarded Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score ranging from 439 to 459 received the invitation through the draw. Undoubtedly, Ontario is a great place to live and work. Tech companies in the province alone created multiple jobs for immigrants. So, earlier this month, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) decided to conduct its tech draw for express entry candidates to meet the needs of the tech sector.
OINP’s express-entry linked Human Capital Priorities immigration stream conduct these draws and select candidates from the Express Entry pool. Application from three economic immigration categories, Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Trades Worker Class, and Canadian Experience Class get collected in the pool for Canada PR.
Eligibility for Ontario’s Tech draw:
An applicant must have an express entry profile in any of three economic categories of the Federal Express entry system
He/she must have at least one year of continuous paid full-time work experience (or the equivalent in paid part-time work) in one of the following six tech occupations:
- Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
- Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
- Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
- Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
- Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
- Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)
He/she must qualify the minimum Cut-off for the draw
Note: There is no minimum requirement for the job offer for Ontario’s Tech draw

Based on the factors like age, work experience, language proficiency, education, your profile is evaluated against others in the pool and assigned a CRS score. In case, you qualify the range of Cut-off, you will receive a provincial nomination for PR. A provincial nomination grants an additional 600 points towards express entry score, which enhances your chances of getting an invitation through Express entry draw.
