The province’s United Conservative Party proposes a new immigration policy, which targets 40,000 Newcomers including primary applicants and their accompanying spouses and dependent children to Rural communities around Alberta by 2024.

Jason Kenney, leader of the United Conservative Party (UCP) and former Canada’s immigration minister (from 2008 to 2013) said, “Alberta needs to “use the power” of immigration to revitalize the province’s smaller, rural communities and the UCP would seek to do so through an immigration strategy centred around two key components: the Rural Renewal Program and the Rural Entrepreneurial Stream.”

He further added, “The goal will be to end large backlogs, speed up processing times, proactively attract talented newcomers from overseas, welcome job-creating entrepreneurs and encourage settlement in rural Alberta, which needs population the most,”

In the coming spring, there will be elections in Alberta and according to polls; the United Conservative Party (UCP) is expected to come in power. On this, Kenny ensured the citizens that the rural renewal program will prioritize economic immigrants, who can help in curving the economy of the province and are ready to settle in Alberta’s smaller rural communities.
