Alberta’s New Immigration Proposal Could Bring 40,000 Newcomers to Rural Communities in the Next 4 Years
The province’s United Conservative Party proposes a new immigration policy, which targets 40,000 Newcomers including primary applicants and their accompanying spouses and dependent children to Rural communities around Alberta by 2024.
Jason Kenney, leader of the United Conservative Party (UCP) and former Canada’s immigration minister (from 2008 to 2013) said, “Alberta needs to “use the power” of immigration to revitalize the province’s smaller, rural communities and the UCP would seek to do so through an immigration strategy centred around two key components: the Rural Renewal Program and the Rural Entrepreneurial Stream.”
He further added, “The goal will be to end large backlogs, speed up processing times, proactively attract talented newcomers from overseas, welcome job-creating entrepreneurs and encourage settlement in rural Alberta, which needs population the most,”
In the coming spring, there will be elections in Alberta and according to polls; the United Conservative Party (UCP) is expected to come in power. On this, Kenny ensured the citizens that the rural renewal program will prioritize economic immigrants, who can help in curving the economy of the province and are ready to settle in Alberta’s smaller rural communities.
As everyone knows, the Federal Express Entry Program is the most popular immigration program in Canada and receives thousands of application every year. So, the candidates who receive a nomination through the program would benefit from extra points towards their ranking score under Express Entry. It will increase their chances for an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canada PR visa.
The party is aiming for the development of a rural community in the province like Manitoba. They want to encourage the young entrepreneurs to set up their business in smaller rural communities around Alberta so that locals will get new job opportunities.
Kenny addressed the growth of Manitoba’s community-driven immigration initiative in Morden and said, “Town of Morden has nearly doubled its population in the past decade, from 5,000 to 9,000, as a result of their version of the Rural Renewal Program,”
So, if you are interested in immigration to Alberta and want to be a part of the economy of its smaller rural communities, then you must check the eligibility for Rural Entrepreneurial Stream including minimum investment, net worth threshold and commitment for managing and operating the business with 51 % ownership there.
Moreover, Kenny said, If individuals meet the selected eligibility criteria, then we would invite them to come to Alberta, nominate them for a two-year work permit through the federal government and then, and if they have shown good-faith effort to start a small business, then we would grant them permanent residence, which is the next step toward citizenship,”
So, this is a golden opportunity for many foreign entrepreneurs to set up their business there as it is estimated that the four-year intake of 2,000 entrepreneurs would translate to around 8,000 newcomers to rural communities over a four-year period when spouses and dependent children are factored in.
