Canada issued invites to the Express Entry trades candidates at CRS score as low as 332
On May 15, 2019, the Canadian Government issued invites to 500 Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) candidates at the lowest Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score of 332 to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence (PR). The score of 332 was significantly lower than the lowest cut-off score drawn through Express Entry draw so far this year, which was 438.
Federal Express Entry program has three different immigration streams including Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC), Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) to bring applications from foreign nationals having skills and past work experience.
Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) aims at those individuals who fulfil the following list of eligibility:
- Certificate of qualification from a specific Canadian province or territory or a valid job offer of employment in Canada for a minimum period of one year
- A minimum of Canadian Level Benchmark (CLB) level 5 for speaking and listening and CLB 4 for reading and writing in the language proficiency test
- Must have two years of work experience in the skilled trade under the following categories of Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC) in the past five years
- Major Group 72: Industrial, electrical and construction trades
- Major Group 73: Maintenance and equipment operation trades
- Major Group 82: Supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production
- Major Group 92: Processing, manufacturing and utility supervisors and central control operators
- Minor Group 632: Chefs and cooks
- Minor Group 633: Butchers and bakers
So if you want to consider your profile for Invitation to Apply (ITA) through FSTC, then firstly you need to register your candidacy in Express entry pool. Based on factors such as age, education, skilled work experience and proficiency in English or French, you get the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
In the draw held on May 15, Federal Skilled Worker Class and Canadian Experience Class candidates who have experience in an eligible skilled trade in Canada and carry the required certificate of qualification or job offer in Canada would have been considered.
Moreover, the tie-break used in the draw was August 29, 2018, at 8:32:03 UTC. It means that only those Federal Skilled Trades Class candidates who have scored a minimum CRS score of 332 and entered their profile in the Express Entry pool before this announced date and time received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through the draw.
Unlike Federal Express entry draw, this draw targets a smaller ratio of candidates with quite lower CRS score. However, it is not new in the provincial nomination; for example, the Alberta Immigration Nominee Program (AIPP) witnessed CRS score as low as 300 three times so far this year. Similarly, Nova Scotia’s draw for its Labor Market Priorities Stream issued invites to Express Entry candidates for a minimum CRS score of 400.
