Increment in number of Expressions of Interest (EOI) reveals demand for Quebec’s immigration submissions
Recently, reports from the Quebec news agency TVA confirms that more than 91,000 (91,307) profiles have been submitted to the Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) through the Arrima portal since its opening on September 18, 2018. Out of which, number of applicants for administration, nursing, and electrical engineers are around 5, 260, 2,160 and 720 respectively.
The portal was introduced to manage the applications under QSWP, and the new EOI system replace first comes, first served policy for QSWP.
The new EOI system replaced first-come, first-served” application process for QSWP and targets the entry of interested and eligible applicants only to existing job opportunities there. For that, applicants need to enter their completed EOI profiles into the QSWP’s Expression of Interest Bank and provide information on education, working experience, language proficiency test score, and more.
Based on the score of selection factors, profile gets selected for further rounds and receive the invitation to apply (ITA) for Quebec Selection Certificate (Certificat de sélection du Québec, or CSQ) from governing authorities. CSQ is required to apply for Canada PR visa.
Quebec’s CAQ Immigration Minister, Simon Jolin-Barrette, said: “MIDI has to first deal with the backlog of around 18,000 applications that were submitted to the QSWP under the old first-come, the first-served model that the EOI system replaced.”
“Rather than process this backlog, the CAQ government has proposed dismissing the pending applications so it can instead focus on the expressions of interest submitted through Arima”.
And this would help to cut the application processing time from 36 months to 6 months, which undoubtedly, would be a great move for immigrants.
However, Quebec’s main immigration lawyers association, AQAADI, has requested the governing authorities to fast-track the backlogged applications instead of dismissing them.
