Following Canada’s 2016 National Occupational Classification (NOC) system, Emploi-Québec in collaboration with the Ministry of Immigration prepared this new list for the Facilitated LMIA applications.
Facilitated LMIA list for Quebec
LMIA stands for Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), and all Canadian employers need to apply for LMIA before hiring a temporary foreign worker for a job position in Canada. For that, they need to provide proof of their recruitment efforts through the different methods of advertising an open position or interviewing eligible candidates for a minimum of 28 days. They need to convince the government that they need to hire a foreign worker as no Canadian citizen or permanent resident is willing or able to meet the requirements for the position.
However, the employers in Quebec don’t require proof of their recruitment efforts for certain job positions in the province and this simplified application process is called “facilitated” LMIA.
The updated list came into effect immediately after its announcement. Quebec employers are provided with 30 days of a transitional period for examining application submitted according to the previous year’s list.
