Second Federal Skilled Trades-specific Express Entry Draw with Scores as Low as 357
On October 16, 2019, the Canadian Government issued invites to 500 Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) candidates at the lowest Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score of 357 to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence (PR). The score of 357 was significantly lower than the lowest cut-off score drawn through Express Entry draw so far this year, which was 438.
FSTC is one of the economic immigration streams under Federal Express Entry Program along with Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) to bring applications from foreign nationals having skills and past work experience.
Express entry is a point-based immigration system which evaluates profiles on credentials like age, education, work experience and language proficiency and awarded them a CRS score. Higher scoring candidates receive invitations to apply through regular Express entry draws.
Generally, the express entry draw issued invitations to for all of its three categories; however, this draw was one of the rare exceptions to this rule. The last express entry draw held on October 2, 2019 was an all-program in which the Federal government of Canada issued 3,900 invitations to Express Entry candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
It was the second draw of 2019 that specifically targets candidates in the Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC). Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) aims at those individuals who fulfill the following list of eligibility:
- Certificate of qualification from a specific Canadian province or territory or a valid job offer of employment in Canada for a minimum period of one year
- A minimum of Canadian Level Benchmark (CLB) level 5 for speaking and listening and CLB 4 for reading and writing in the language proficiency test
- Must have two years of work experience in the skilled trade under the following categories of Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC) in the past five years
The tie-break used in today’s draw by IRCC was March 4, 2019, at 20:36:42 UTC. It means that all those candidates who received a minimum CRS score of 357 and entered their profile in the Express Entry pool before the tie-break date and time are eligible to receive an ITA through the draw.
So if you want to consider your profile for FSTC, then you need to first check your eligibility. On being eligible, create your Express Entry profile. Based on the selection factors, your profile gets CRS score. In case you don’t get sufficient score for EE draw, then you can apply to express entry-linked Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
Unlike all-program Federal Express entry draw, this draw targets a smaller ratio of candidates with quite lower CRS score. However, it is not new in the provincial nomination; for example, latest Alberta Express Entry draw selected candidates with scores as low as 400. Provincial nomination grants an additional 600 CRS points to CRS score of an individual effectively guarantying an invitation to apply for Canadian PR.
