Canada’s new immigration levels plan could widen gap if U.S. immigration levels are left as they are or reduced

Remarks have been made by the prime minister, in an appearance at the Fortune Most Powerful Women International Summit in Montreal, which brought together women CEOs, thought leaders, entrepreneurs and senior representatives of the Canadian government.

Canada invites immigrants equal to almost one per cent of its total population i.e. 300,000 approximately. Also, the government of Canada has made new immigration levels plan that will see admissions of new permanent residents through Canada’s economic, family and refugee / humanitarian programs reach nearly one per cent of Canada’s population in 2021.
Canada is planning to invite a total of 350,000 immigrants to Canada that year (2021) and about 60 per cent of that will arrive through Canada’s economic immigration programs. A majority of economic immigrants are slated to arrive through Canada’s Federal High Skilled immigration programs and it’s Provincial Nominee Program.
The U.S. at risk of falling further behind in ‘international competition for labour’
The new immigration levels plan of Canada will be a disadvantage to the U.S if immigration rates there remain as they are or are even reduced. Accordingly, If the U.S. rate remains as steady as it has, America will fall further behind in the international competition for labour.
In 2017, the U.S. immigration rate of 0.3 per cent paled compared to Canada’s rate of just over 0.8 per cent. The economic immigration rate of Canada was 11 times higher than the U.S in the same year 2017.
